Objective
As part of his European Tour, basketball legend Michael Jordan visited the UK for two days in October 2006. Limelight played an integral role in two events within his schedule:
The London Jordan All American Classic: A basketball clinic for 30 of the UK’s most promising young basketball players at the home of basketball in London – Brixton Recreation Centre. (All players were hand picked from across the Country by Nike.)
Jordan Legacy Court: Michael Jordan officially opened a refurbished basketball court named the ‘Jordan Legacy Court’ at the old Lillian Bayliss School in South East London.
Approach
Limelight managed a number of processes involved in the organisation of both of these events, including venue hire and management, national travel arrangements for all players, venue and court branding and all logistics.
As part of the role in the official opening of the Jordan Legacy Court, Limelight site managed the complete refurbishment of the basketball court transforming the old school gym into a fully modernised show piece court – which is now used virtually on a daily basis.
Outcome
The Jordan All American Classic provided the opportunity for the UK’s most promising young basketball players to hone their skills and meet Michael Jordan for a day in October 2006. The most valuable player, selected by Jordan himself, won the opportunity to take part in the Global Jordan Clinic in America and meet his European and US counterparts.
The Jordan Legacy Court has left a groundbreaking basketball court in South East London, which is an inspiration to all basketball enthusiasts, encouraging more young people to make a positive contribution to sport and basketball in the capital.
