The World’s largest swimming fundraiser
Objective
To develop a swimmer retention programme and promote swimming nationally, whilst raising funds for the Swimathon Foundation and a nominated charity beneficiary.
Approach
Development of an annual [March] event utilising a national partner network of 550 public and private swimming pools - providing them with branded marketing materials, PR support package, the provision of an interactive website and a central Customer Relationship Management team to deal with all participant queries, registrations and retention.
Outcome
Limelight Projects has a long term successful relationship with Swimathon, and continues to manage the event on behalf of the Swimathon Foundation. Up to 25,000 swimmers take part each year and over £20 million has been raised for the Swimathon Foundation and a variety of charities. The number of participating pools has increased year on year and 2007 shows a positive incline in the number of private pools taking part, which in turn creates further exposure to potential swimmers.
Marie Curie Cancer Care is the charity beneficiary for 2008 and a fundraising target of £1.8 million has been set. The event takes place 17-20 April.
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing, totally free to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home supported by their families. The charity also has 10 hospices, which provide specialist care for people in comfortable surroundings.
